The Sustainable Science and Cooling Comfort of Tencel Bedding for Menopausal Women

Tencel is one of the most sustainable fabrics available. Tencel™/lyocell sources all wood from sustainably harvested eucalyptus forests, grown without pesticides, fertilisers or irrigation.

Tencel™ is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). This means that proper forest management is ensured to sustain, conserve and restore forests for future generations to enjoy.

The solvent used to break down the eucalyptus wood into pulp is a 100% non-toxic organic amine solvent called N-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) and more than 99% of the solvent and water used in the closed loop process is recovered and reused.

It is Oeko Tex 100 certified that no harmful substances are contained within the fibres of the material.

Tencel™ uses the least amount of direct land, direct water, direct energy than any other fibres. Any and all Greenhouse gases produced in the process are neutralised by Tencel™. Furthermore, any CO2 or GHG created by Phenxx are also neutralised with our sustainable offset program.

For more information describing energy use, water use, greenhouse gas emissions, water waste and direct land use by various fibers, see the report “Review of Life Cycle Assessments of Clothing” created by D. A. Chapman and O. Hollins (2010).

In 2010, authors Shen and Patel (researchers at the Copernicus Institute at Utrecht University), published their "Life Cycle Assessment of man-made cellulose fibres" in the Lenzinger Berichte Journal (88: 1–59), where they assessed all man-made and natural fibres. Of all assessed fibres, Tencel™ is the most favourable choice from an environmental point of view among all the fibres studied. They found that Tencel™ was the best preferred choice for reducing non-renewable energy use, Global Warming Potentials (GWP), toxicity impacts, water use, and land use, while cotton was identified as the least preferred choice due to its high ecotoxicity impacts, eutrophication, water use, land use, energy use and relatively low land use efficiencies.

Tencel™ Modal Microfibres feel incredibly soft, luxurious and comfortable on the skin, a smooth and silk-like texture. Our Cooling Canvas is made from a blend of Tencel™ and our Cooling Threads™. The combination means that it both feels cool to the touch and has moisture wicking and absorbing properties, ideal for women suffering from hot flushes or night sweats,

Our AntiFlush™ technology means the Cooling Canvas will stay airy, cool and dry all night long while regulating moisture. Night sweats can be caused by various factors and cannot always be avoided just by lowering bedroom temperature. Our unique combination of Tencel™ and our Cooling Threads™ stops overheating directly where it occurs: on the skin.
